Holy crap its a big school, and there were so many people there to take the test. I found which trailer I was supposed to be in, and while walking over there, I saw so many people from my elementary and middle schools. It was very weird, I don't know if any of them recognized me or not, because I've changed a lot (or at least I think so). Although there was one girl who I know recognized me, and turned around and walked in the other direction... oh well. When I got into the room inside the trailer where I was supposed to take it, there were more people from elementary and middle school, many of whom looked exactly the same. I really hope I did well, so I don't have to take it again, but I may have screwed up the essay (damn going off on tangents too much).

5 more school days until spring break

PS- I really miss being friends with you.

Its been a while since my last post, sorry to those of you who actually read this (all three or four of you).

The past two weeks have been full of really big highs and lows, nothing really in between.

+I told someone how I felt
-I'm pretty sure I hurt them pretty bad, otherwise they might still want to talk to me
-I wasn't able to fully explain myself to them because, they are a good, caring person that it was very difficult to get out the few words that I did
+Coach said that there would be a WV4+ and a MV4+ and any body with 2k times under 8:00 for girls and under 7:00 for boys would be guarenteed spots in those boats
-I found out I'm doing terrible in math
+Got a good grade on my huge US history paper
+My sister came home
-She was home for like 12 hours
-Taking the SAT tomarrow
-Scared shitless
-Realized that I cut my hair in an attempt to not feel depressed about things, and it didn't work
-I really want my hair back
-Realized I'm not the same person I was when the school year started and I'm not sure I like who I am now

Where my hair went... http://www.locksoflove.org
I kinda miss it, but it will grow back, and at least I did something good with it. I'll pass on the leadership stuff, napoleon complex garbage, and point out a secondary characteristic or two that coxes unintentionally inherit after riding in the box for a while.

They can't drive a car anymore. They take 10 miles to change a lane, oversteer, can't find the brakes, and yell to the car a lot. This has nothing to do with the coxes' former driving ability. Stick Richard Petty in a cox seat for a while, they'll take his drivers license away. Coxes also begin to squint a lot, no loss in vision, they just squint.

Stroke:

'It's a tough job but only I can do it.' The meekest, most frightened non-rower in the world - when plugged reluctantly in the stroke seat, stays meek up until the first few strokes. The first few paddle strokes, a thought grows in the wimps' sniveling little mind that this job is his/hers for life. Back on the shore, the real personality will percolate back to the surface. 'I hope you guys could follow me ok'. In the boat they're thinking: 'stop rushing, you weenies!" Strokes are born and made to be the most competitive person in the boat by far, and if they stroke long enough, become overly competitive in everything they pursue, or don't pursue.. Don't expect to finish a game of Monopoly, Risk, or Golf with a stroke. The only one that can beat him to the chow line is the three man (more later) because the stroke was delayed trying to put more oars away in the rack than anyone else.

Seven:

The seven seat is the Bitch Niche. I don't know if whining, overly bossy, big mouthed complainers are born, and I can't believe that the cosmic effect of this seat could possibly be so instantaneous, but you could teach Mother Theresa to row in a tank, stick her in an eight at seven for the first time, and as the stern four is rowing away from the dock, she'll turn around and yell at the bow four to 'set up the f*cking boat'. The longer one rows at seven, the more sophisticated and complex the bitching becomes, changing from a crude verbal rowing suggestion to the six man in the early stages to long winded level-voiced reasoned treatises after every piece explaining why the crew is slower now than last week. Ever wonder why when a coach drives up shell-side to ask how a piece went he says: 'So how did that go, fellas? -Not you seven.'

^ I'm not that bad am I????

Six:

If you bred Arnold Swartzeneggar with a Golden Retriever, you get a six. Six is also Seven's yin. The gentle giant, gorilla in the mist. Six absorbs most of seven's bitching and keeps it from moving through to the rest of the crew. Six nods and agrees a lot. It is a hard thing for a normal person to row six. It seems like such a great seat, you're in the stern, the boats more stable here, but you are done with a rowing career at six, you find you been used. Sixes are characterized by great competence in execution of rowing and life, but poor self confidence and a propensity to self-flagellation. Take your 3 year stroke out of the stroke seat and stick him/her at six for a week. This will be the first time you ever hear him/her say: 'My fault, fellas', at the end of a poor piece. Sixes meditate. Sixes marry, go to work for, and lend their power tools to sevens. This support system keeps sevens with thriving businesses, mates they can walk all over, and a garage full of power tools at their disposal that they don't have to fix when they break.

Five:

God. Yahweh. Allah. Buddha. It's not that the five seat IS those things, it's just that's how (s)he gets treated. Five's stool don't stink, the catches don't hang. They're the older brother or sister that gets special treatment, and has no idea. If a photo is taken of the crew, five will look great, everyone else is caught with shirtaills out, and snot on the lip. At heart and soul, five forgets to change oil, pay phone bills, and turn in the forms to the IRS. Five is an example of what happens to a bum that is treated like a king, they act like one. Five has the greatest delta between image and reality. The fortunate thing is that the unearned unabashed worship lasts only as long as the time on the water. Five's on his own back at home. Five wears aviator glasses.

Four:

The Amnesia-seat. Take a genius with a photographic memory. Row said genius at four. Listen to him ask for the third time in the same warmup. 'How many of these 500s are we doing?'. Four seat is not stupid, just has immediate and catastrophic memory loss. At a start and 20, four settles at 21 because in the time the cox yelled 'settle in two', he forgot. In a Novice boat where the seats have been removed and cleaned, it'll be four's that went back in backwards. Four will forget to tell the boatman about his(her) stripped rigger nut - usually from the time he is told by the coach, until he arrives at the boatman's bench wondering what he's doing there. On that first day on the water as the ice is breaking up, who is rummaging around the back of the boathouse looking for a sweatshirt? Four is why racing shirts are handed out on race day.

Three:

Late in the water. Late to practice. Late to class. Late to work. Late out of the water. Late to his date. Late to the team bus. Late for everything but chow line. There is no competitiveness involved here, just an uncanny knack to have the first three rowers into the dining hall stopped by friends for a brief discussion while three breezes on by to the tray stack. Three generally gets assigned a sitter.

Two:

Lean to the Left, Lean to the right, stand up sit down fight fight fight. Cheerleader. What is amazing, is to sit at four or five after a particular piece - seven is whining about the balance, the spacing, no swing, rushing: two is back there with pom poms saying: ALL RIGHT GUYS! LETS DO THAT AGAIN!.... Two calls out names of power 10s. 'Awright guys - OAR CLASH TEN!' If he says something funny, he repeated something the bowman prompted him with.

Bow:

Comedian. The bow seat creates a strange fatalism. They know that in a catastrophic collision, they'll be the only one to die or get paralysed. Consequently there is a constant quiet stream of one-liners that two or three could probably hear if two were not cheering loudly. If the bow is joined by a cox in a front-loader, this trait completely disappears, since someone is now likely to hear him joke about three being late, five not pulling hard, or the coxn's course looking like a signature. (S)he can be humorless and witless off the water, but on the water when there is breath to spare, you're sure to catch a chuckle if you listen.

You Are a Warrior Soul

You're a strong person and sometimes seen as intimidating.
You don't give up. I suppose its not all bad being here, my grandparents do have a lot of fruit trees in their backyard and for the past couple mornings my sister and I have made fresh squeezed orange juice, which is so much better than the concentrate stuff. We got here yesterday after 14 hours in the car, 2 hours longer than we were supposed to be cause of traffic. Woke up today and went running with my sister, which was kinda nice, but also showed me just how out of shape I am. It was cold (for here) and cloudy all day, so we didn't get to go swimming in the ocean or the pool that is in my grandparents backyard. Spent the entire day reading wishing the sun would come out. But its ok, its supposed to get warm later in the week. I have my cell phone, even if I don't have aim, so call me if you get bored, cause chances are I will be too or e-mail me (my e-mail address is kmeyer1223@yahoo.com in case if you didn't know). I have limited access to a computer- which means my grandparents own one, but I'm not really supposed to use it that much.

My Christmas in a nutshell

Friday (christmas eve)

-woke up to my mother screaming about how my sister and I should be more helpful and clean up before our Aunt, Uncle, and cousins get here
-Went on a pre-christmas eve dinner run w/ emmie
-Came back helped make dinner
-Relatives come, we all eat ham, roast beef, 2 kinds of potato salad, and assorted other things until we can eat no more
-Go to church with relatives
-Come back to open presents from them and my dad's side of the family
Got:
-$$/gift cards
-A CD
-stuff from the body shop

Saturday (christmas day)
-Wake up after sleeping in fairly late and wait for the rest of my family to wake up
-Open stuff from parents/mom's side of the family
Got:
-$$
-A subscription to rowing news
-Gone with the wind on DVD (yay!)
-A squishy pillow
-A trip back to Boston to go to the harvard rowing camp again (YAY!!)
-and there is prolly other stuff, but i just can't remember

-Lay around eat leftovers from christmas eve dinner
-Go to relative's house in Durham
-Eat (more!! eek) Christmas dinner
-Feel like a rolly polly

Yeah so it has become very apparent to me that Meyer family holidays revolve around cooking and eating really good food, this is not such a good thing if I decide I want to row lightweight in college, but oh well.

Tomarrow morning I leave for Florida, and don't come back until really late 2 days before school starts, if you love me, you'll call my cell and help me keep some shred of what will have formerly been my sanity!!!

So today i officially turn 17... its kinda scary cause that means I can get into R-rated movies and I'm one year closer to not needing parental signatures and such. Any ways, I spent most of the day with emmie shopping, trying to figure out what to get my family, and after like 5 hours we found something for everyone in our family except eachother.

ps. I have done almost nothing. On Saturday, I went to a dog show at the fair grounds, and I won my class, which means I now get to move up to the open senior class (yes i realize this means absolutely nothing to most of you, but hey it was a big thing for me!). After the dog show I hung out with my dad for the rest of the day, which I haven't done in a while, so it was fun. Today I basically sat around and felt crappy, and did homework. Tomarrow I think I'm hanging out with my sister shes done with class, I haven't seen her since she left almost a month ago, so that should be good.

There was a rant here, but it really wasn't very nice, and for anyone who actually saw it- sorry.

Been quite a long time since my last post. Since then, school started, crew started, school got pretty hard, and we did a 4k at crew.

Junior year is really hard. I have so much more homework than I did last year. Its going to be a really long year. But I really like most of my teachers, I'm not quite sure about Ms. Chalifoux though, she seems kinda spacey.

My sister goes back to school tomarrow. She moved most of her stuff in on Wednesday. Its going to be really weird without her. Last year, I had a hard time with it. I hope its going to be easier this year. If i m usually crabby or pissy this week, that explains why. Even since we were little, we've shared a lot of things, like clothes and cds, and now we have to divide up who gets what, its really weird, kinda like a couple getting divorced only not.

Actual classes at RCHS start exactly a week from today... how scary is that??! This summer has gone by really fast. I can't believe there is only a week left. And the closer it gets to school starting, the more scared i get of junior year. There is so much hype around junior year, about how it is so hard, and how it is the most important year of your high school career. And to my knowledge, I have hardly any of my friends in any of my classes except for german, and english... i think. Once school starts there will be no more time for the simple things that summer is all about, like going to the beach, going to the lake, reading books that aren't for required for school to my hearts content, and spending a ton of time with my sister before she goes back to school at the end of August. OK, enough whining/complaining. There are up sides to school starting back up... crew starts, i will probably get to start driving myself to and from school on crew days sometimes towards the begining of September, i get to hang out w/ people who live on the other side of town that i don't usually get to see during the summer again.

The boat swamped, we swam. Don't think I'm some sort of sicko who enjoys seeing the team's stuff destroyed and people get hurt, b/c nothing was destroyed, nothing got broken, no one got hurt. We had 6 people no cox, and coach didn't feel like switching 2 people out of a 4, so she was like 'well its all good, i'll cox, and we'll do lots of pices. Here was the line-up we were in coach, applesauce, big john, grant ,will, xan, me. So we were kinda doomed from the start for putting the heaviest people in the stern. So we take the boat out and are in our warm-up when, this massive wake from some wake-boarders hits us, and we take on some water, not a big deal... or at least thats what we thought. So we continue rowing down to the end of the lake, when we see the wake-boarders and are like 'okay we'll stay on this end of the lake if you stay on that end.' So we take it up all six and start rowing, then coach says something about how we're just gonna start heading into the dock, and the people towards the bow are like what??!! why???! Then she says 'okay bow pair drop out and start bailing', and Xan and I are even more confused, then we look at stern pairs riggers, which are slowly making their way down into the water. At this point the water is begining to reach the bow end of the boat, and then people in the stern start jumping out, and then the most of the bow jumps out too, that is everyone except will, who thinks it would be fun to stay in the boat. It was quite funny. So while everyone was swimming next to the boat, which happend to become swamped smack dap in the middle of the lake (how convenient), we are like wow what are we gonna do, and coach keeps telling us don't take your oars out, b/c the boat will sink if you do and keeps checking to see if anyone was freaking out, which no one was, b/c we all found it quite amusing. So we start yelling and screaming at the wake-boarders to come and help us, and after like 5 minutes they come over and everyone gets in their boat, and coach ties their ski tow line thingy to the riggers and we make our way to the dock. So we get back to the dock and attempt to drain the boat as much as possible, and then take it back to the racks. After the boat is put away, coach tells us there is a hole in the stern of that boat (i think it is in the top part where there is that vinal-ish stuff, and thats part of the reason we took on a lot of water. It was a really exciting morning, and the first time I've ever gotten to go swimming in lake wheeler. That was a mighty long ramble, my apologies to non-crewies and crewies who could care less.

Summer is almost over... how sad, especially since my brother is coming to RCHS this year :-/

On wednesday at crew my finger popped, while we were rowing, and i didn't really pay any attention to it, b/c it didn't hurt, but then after crew thursday, i could no longer feel part of my finger, and i still can't.

Tomarrow I'm going back to Raleigh Community, to do more volunteering aka wheeling around a buncha guys with tattoos who are all drugged up. Boston was AMAZING. It was so unlike any city i've ever been to, it wasn't as friendly as Philadelphia, but the river was awsome. It went right through the city, and had lots of bridges with crew graffti all over them, from the local teams. The coaches at the camp were so good. Almost all of them have been on the national team at least once, one of them even knew coach schaeffer, and they video taped us so that they could go through and analyse ever part of our stroke, which really helps. We use the Harvard women's boat house, which was huge, and had the most boats in one boat house that I've ever seen. After rowing till around 5ish, the people who were boarding went back to the dorms which we were staying at, which were ok, Leslie (aka los) and I had a corner room (3 window rather than just 2), which we shared with a girl from Pine Crest crew in Florida, who we hung out with for most of the week, and then left without even saying goodbye, and then there was another girl in a small closet-like room, which was attached to ours, she was shy and slightly annoying. Any ways, from 5-9:30 we were allowed to go pretty much where ever, within Harvard square, which is pretty big, but they wouldn't have known if you had gone else where. There was an Urban Outfitters there, which I must say, is one of the coolest stores ever, I got 3 shirts and spent under $25 (yay!). I highly reccomend this camp to anyone who rows. I think I will prolly go back next year.

Coming soon... Besides I think if I don't post something soon, Martha will be running at me with sharp objects. I can't believe it, but a week from today, I fly to Boston for the Charles River Rowing Camp. Does anyone know what the weather is like in Boston... b/c I have no clue what clothes to bring. Then, I get home, and leave for the beach (Emerald Isle) with my relatives form Arizona and Durham the next day, 17 people in a 4 bedroom house is always fun. But before I get to go on my trips I have to get through this week. I'm doing the morning practice/workout with Coach Schaefer, which is awsome, and I highly recommend going, but I have to get up at 5:30 if I wanna get there on time. And this week I start my volunteer work at Raleigh Community Hospital, which is no longer called that, but Duke University Health Care Raleigh Hospital. I'll be there from 12-4 Mondays and Wednesdays for pretty much the rest of the summer.

2 Days of exams down. 1 day to go! The boat placed 21 out of 46 which is really really good, but you had to be in the top 19 to make it to semis.

There are only 4 real days left of school, which is really nice. And on Wednesday we began to seat race for the V4 and coach put me on starboard side, so I never even had the oppertunity to race against the only person that I might have been able to beat (Xan), but Robin did beat her which is good... we're supposed to finish on Monday but who knows what will happen then.

just a question...So what do you do when

you are walking along with your dog minding your own business when someone honks at you, and as they drive by you see that it is your best friend from middle school's dad, and your old friend who abandoned you when she went to another high school and became anorexic and got a bf and didn't tell you and who on her birthday you brought her a nice present that she didn't even thank you for, hops out of the car (in front of her house) with some really preppy looking girl with a humungous nose and says "hey nice to see you its been a while, how are you, we were just about to leave for the beach"

any ideas?

Reasons why today rocked
-Going and getting Easter candy at Target to help feed the 12 Duke Lutherans + 1 Duke Sister + 5 relatives who are all coming over to eat Easter dinner with my family on Easter Sunday (the duke lutherans are coming to my house to eat Easter dinner b/c duke has no Easter break and most of them live far away)
-GORGEOUS weather (75 degrees OH YEAH!)
-Sitting out on my hammock in the gorgeous weather reading a book
-Going to my interview for a volunteer position over the summer at Raleigh Community Hospital
-Getting a volunteer position at Raleigh Community Hospital... yes I queen of disasters is going to work at a hospital over the summer
-Missing crew practice (well re-rigging boats but same difference) because of my interview
-Eating beef lo-mein and moo-shu pork left-overs
-Hearing the song Red Neck Woman We got back from our regatta Sunday at 2:30 (3:30 with daylight savings time) and i m finally conscious enough type. I love regattas and the fact that spring break began on the day we left just sweetened it. The regatta was in Gainesville, GA at the same spot where they held the '96 Olympics, so of course the venue was awesome. There was these HUGE step like things that was like a grand stand and my boat pulled our uni's down half way and layette down on then with our pillows. The night before the race (Friday night) my boat made shirts, on the front they said The Fatties in the skinny and had 8 pigs then on the back there was a big pig with my name in it. Not many people understood them but that's ok. Our boat didn't end up doing very well but we still had fun.

Hope everyone is having an awesome spring break!

Yay its blog updating time (because we're in the language lab of course)!!! I find it sad that lately the only time I have to update my blog lately is when we're in the language lab. oh well. I spent Saturday and Sunday with my sister and my cousin at Duke. It was awsome! Michelle (my cousin) and I decided if we were going to get the full college experience while we were at Duke with Emily then we should of course gain the freshmen fifteen, and we just might have succeded. First we put on our bathing suits and went to hang out at duke gardens and attempt to get tans, after that we went to Ben and Jerry's (ohhhhh so good) where I saw Dr. Marschall, who was going to a birthday party at the restraunt next door, and it turns out she lived in the same dorm as my sister when she went to duke. After ben and jerry's we went back to emmie's dorm and braided our hair and hung out for a while till it was time to eat more. For dinner we had milkshakes (i had a strawberry one) and an uber good pizza- pesto sauce, cheese, mushrooms, onions, and bacon...oh so good. Then we went back to her dorm and made cookies to take to her lutheran group party/get together thingy-which was really cool, there were lots of really smart lutheran college kids, but I suppose that was to be expected. I think we got to sleep by like 3, college people have really weird hours, em was saying she went to sleep later than 12 usually and didn't usually have to get up till after 10... ah it seems so nice.

In newspaper right now. Dr. B is sick so, everyone is slacking off. Today at crew we're supposed to be doing a 2k, and coach put me in a group with the best ergers on the team... eeeeek. I have a bad head ache and don't know if I really want to go, but I know I really should but really don't want to, and there are these massive blisters on the back of my heels (damn those stupid frumpy dog show shoes!) Bah. Yesterday and saturday I was at dog shows at the NC State fair grounds, it was really fun. Saturday Sonja came with and got to see all the crazy dog show people, and I won against a girl with a Bedlington terrier, but she beat me on sunday, but thats ok, because now I only need one more win to move in to open senior! And on Saturday ruger and I got a gift certificate for a dog shop at the show, with which I promptly bought him a huge fleecy bone with 2 squeekies in it.

Its Tuesday... which means we're in the language lab in german currently. Least they got to go out and coach says that she knows whats wrong with the coach boat and we can go out for the full time tomarrow. I was happy that I got to sleep in till 9 for the first time in a while. But I'm really not looking forward to making school up, and we're loosing valuble practice time for crew. I got really bored of hanging around the house, and avoiding my english paper that is due monday and writing up my proposal for a paper for ELPS, so i convinced my mom to take me to Old Navy, which was good. I got a new pair of jeans and a really cool "motor-cycle jacket".

Wow today we got out at 12:30 ish b/c of all the snow that is supposed to me coming, but right now there is not more than 2 inches and none of it is sticking to the ground/street. I wonder if there will be school tomorrow... I kind of hope so because I don't want them to have to add any days on to the end of school or go on Saturday again. Also I m really bored right now and suprisingly enough I'd almost rather be at school or crew, well definitely crew but not so sure about school. But I can't believe that we didn't get to go to 5th period (today was an ex day- we only go to 1st,3rd, and 5th periods) b/c there was a chem test and I studied so hard for it and now I have no idea when I'll be taking it. On the way home from crew we almost got into an accident b/c some stupid person voomed out into our lane from no where and Nicki had to swear, and we just barely missed hitting the other car...I m still a little shaken up.

I m currently in ELPS and we are supposed to be doing a stupid scavenger hunt and I got frusterated (i know i know i can't spell). Today we have more erging at crew (blech) and that will be very interesting considering a lot of people are sore from practice yesterday and the day before. But we get to rig boats on Friday and that makes everything better. AND tomarrow is an ex day which means I have half the amount of homework that I usually do, so maybe I'll make brownies or something... because brownies make me happy!

Wahoo I m in german class right now in the language lab (ha!) we never get anything done in this class... oh well. There is crew after school and they have been saying that it is supposed to rain, which will be interesting if does, as I only have a tee shirt and shorts. We had erging yesterday... 6 x 500 meters w/ about 5 minutes rest in between, that was interesting to say the least b/c I really hate doing interval work on the erg, but I suppose it will help me in the long run.
